Real Word: Joshua 22:22-24

Rebelution

“The LORD alone is God! The LORD alone is God! We have not built the altar in rebellion against the LORD. If we have done so, do not spare our lives this day.

But the LORD knows, and let all Israel know, too, that we have not built an altar for ourselves to turn away from the LORD. Nor will we use it for our burnt offerings or grain offerings or peace offerings. If we have built it for this purpose, may the LORD himself punish us. ”We have built this altar because we fear that in the future your descendants will say to ours, ‘What right do you have to worship the LORD, the God of Israel? Joshua 22:22-24 New Living

Can you imagine building an altar to let the whole world know that you are serving God, only to see an army of angry warriors coming over the hill to crash the party?

Real Word: John 1:6-8

s720261638_131597_4420.jpgThere came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.  John 1:6-8 NIV

Do you ever feel like you don’t have much to offer? I don’t know if JTB (John the Baptist) felt this way, but just the other night I met someone who does. Her statement reminded me of this scripture. (more…)

Real Devo: Rain, Go Away!

cgon319l.jpg

I woke again to the sound of thunder so loud that it shook the windows. Hail pelted the house. My cat was on the deck, plastered to the window screen, crying to be let in.

Rain again.

The weather guy on TV looks tired. He points to the screen behind him. “Rain,” is all he seems to mouth. Blah. Blahdee. Blah. Blah.  (more…)

Real Word: Revelation

teensworship.jpg

Aha!

So, that’s what that means.

Deeper understanding. Knowledge. Insight. That’s what the word revelation means. Today I was reading the book of Revelations [chapters 1 through 4].

As I studied these chapters, I asked the 5 W’s: (more…)

Real Word: Hebrews 2:18

s720261638_131565_7600.jpg

Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. Hebrews 2:18

This verse is often shared with us to say that Jesus understands. He knows what we are going through. He loves us. He was tempted, so he gets it when we are tempted.

But let’s look at this another way. Do we understand what He went through? Do we know that He was tempted in the midst of humiliation, physical suffering, betrayal, shame, loneliness?

Real Advice: Does God know I’m confused?

Does God hear me?

I used to have a strong faith in God, but junior year has messed me up, I don’t feel close to him anymore, my grades have been falling. I have suffered from depression and Ii always feel doubtful. I don’t know what to do about falling into the wrong relationships with guys who don’t have the same religious faith as me, but I really need some advice from someone who has more faith than I do… Emi

Real Bible Study: To Infinity, and beyond?

images.jpg

Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. Philipians 3:8

A lot of things are considered valuable. People. Cold hard cash. Nintendo Wii. A Coach purse.

But how valuable is our relationship with Christ?
