Real Poem: (Idea) Spark by Maddee Schrader

Idea Spark

(Idea) Spark

by Maddee Schrader

Just like a spark it comes and fires in my mind,
A single flame that falls from space and rests upon
My thoughts. It touches down and lights a flame, does start
A little burn. I stop right there and listen as
The flame begins to speak. Sometimes it talks of lands
That do not yet exist. And some days it will tell
Me of new people, kings and beggars, girls and boys,
Computer geeks and cops. Sometimes I sit and hear
This, fanning flames into a blaze, but oft I know
I do not have the time. So on those days I let
Real life extinguish the idea. But now and then
It speaks insistently; I hear and smile, and write it down.

Maddee Schrader is a 16-year old author who plans to major in Writing and Spanish, beginning this. She loves talking with her sister and running, and is currently working on her second novel. You can connect with Maddee at her blog.

From Suzie: Maddee is an amazing writer! We hope to hear more from her in the future. If you want to share your poetry, lyrics, testimony, devo, or review on RTF, e-mail me. We are currently looking for eight full-time staff writers to write once a month!

Real Poem: The Cross

cross

The Cross by Lawrana M., 14

(Excerpted from Real Teens, Real Stories, Real Life)

The cross that hangs from my neck
is a symbol of who I am

What I hold close to my heart
some people will never understand

He died for them, too,
not just for me

If they knew someone died
on Calvary

Would they wear this cross
like me?

Or is this a secret that everyone knows
and chooses not to believe

Not comprehending it comes with love
and forgiveness for eternity

Real Devo: Picture Perfect, II

Ask God to join you in your relationship!

Picture Perfect?
by Lydia Rule, RTF Staff writer

Situation Three: Lauren and Ryan are both saved and have been dating each other for a year. They seem like the perfect couple. They have both promised their parents that they will save sex for marriage. However, the temptation is there—especially when Ryan takes her out for a drive in his car or when Lauren spends the afternoon at Ryan’s house.

They snuggle, kiss, and hold hands, after all, what couple doesn’t? As time goes by, they have done everything BUT the big no-no, and technically, they’re still virgins. Yet, they feel guilty for pushing their relationship to the limits.

Real Devo: Picture Perfect

Picture perfect

Picture Perfect?

by Lydia Rule, RTF Staff Writer

He’s cute. She’s pretty. But are they really right for each other? They are the picture-perfect couple—the type you see on movies where the handsome football star and the homecoming queen magically fall in love. But sometimes appearances can fool us.

Like the mirrors in a fun house, what we see doesn’t match up with reality. (more…)

Real Poem: Pick her up, God

girl.jpg

Pick her up, God

by Brooke Giddens

She thinks she’s cool doing drugs and partying every night
My only prayer is that she will one day see the light
she hides under her make up and black hair
Somedays I wonder if she even really cares
She seems so happy with such and awful life,
But sometimes I wonder if she thinks of death by knife
She says she used to cut herself, but she stopped this year.
Her stories pain me and nearly bring me to tears.
I want to say, “Why Lord have you given me so many blessings?
When this girl has nothing.
I invite her to church, but she doesn’t want to come.
She says last time she went the congregation all made fun,

Real Devo: All Alone?

All Alone?

By Lydia Rule, RTF Staff Writer

Daniel… the name echoes down the Hall of Faith-filled Heroes. He was the young boy who kept his faith in a strange country, the prophet and wise man who interpreted dreams, the man who spent a night with lions and lived to tell about it.

When we think of Daniel, the Sunday school picture of him kneeling alone in prayer pops into our minds. Hey, we can even imagine a halo hanging over his head and heavenly light streaming down on top of his solitary figure. (more…)

Real Music Review: Chase the Glow

by C.W. Ross, Guest RTF Writer

Artist:chasetheglow
Title:chasetheglow
Website: http://www.myspace.com/chasetheglow
Style: Alternative Rock
Rating: 8.9 out of 10

Chasetheglow was formed recently in the spring of 2007. While the band itself is new its individual members aren’t having previous music experience being in other bands.

For example, I first hear lead singer Sara Pecchia’s vocals a few years back when she was in the band Identity. Back then I was amazed by her vocal talents being that she was still only a teenager, so when she recently contacted me about a new band she was involved with I couldn’t wait to hear their music.

I wasn’t disappointed Sara always had the vocal talent but now she also has the extra wisdom that comes from life experiences that adds that extra bit of passion to her vocals. (more…)

Real Devo: A Flower Quickly Fading

A Flower Quickly Fading

by Jenn Joshua, RTF Staff Writer

“I am a flower quickly fading,
Here today and gone tomorrow…
…A vapor in the wind
Still you hear me when I’m calling
Lord, you catch me when I’m falling
And You show me who I am;
I am Yours.”

Who can understand life and its brevity? The One who created life and orchestrated our steps and told us that it was good. And it is good for those of us who love Him.

My aunt died last night. Dad just came in the door and told me the news. I was stunned. I knew it was almost inevitable and still I’m surprised. Why?
