real story: my broken heart

My True Love,

Why did you leave so soon? We were so close. I spent all my time with you. I told you all my secrets.

You were the first one to know when I had a new story. The first one to know when I had late-night insomnia.

I ate with you. I cried on you. I was entertained by you. (more…)

real poll: new year’s resolutions

resolutionspoll

May all your troubles last as long as your New Year’s resolutions.  ~Joey Adams

My New Year’s resolutions usually last…

About the same amount of time it takes to get the mac and cheese out of the microwave.

As long as I don’t make any. (Aren’t they for old people anyway?)

All year … but I’m also the type of person who measures my milk for my cereal every morning.

real article: shoes for tomorrow

by RTF Staff Writer Kalli Simmerman

We’ve all seen those heart-wrenching programs where children in third-world countries walk around looking for something to eat. Have you ever noticed that most are barefoot?

Walking is a primary mode of transportation in developing countries and can be harmful unless the feet are protected. Walking over hard-packed roads riddled with stones and sticks can cause cuts and sores which can easily become infected. Sometimes these wounds even lead to amputation or disease caused by soil-transmitted parasites.

How can this be prevented? By simply giving a child a pair of shoes. (more…)

real interview: andrew yellis

By RTF Staff Writer Jenn Joshua

Jenn Joshua: So, Andrew, when you’re not busy setting yourself on fire, I’ve heard that you also have a passion for missions work.  More specifically, working with orphans in China.  It seems like a lot of teens go through the “I-want-to-be-a-missionary-to-China” stage.  For you, it obviously wasn’t just a stage. You’re studying Chinese in college.  You have plans to move to Beijing after graduation.  Can you tell us a little more about the work that you do with Chinese orphans and the program you work through while you’re there? real fun: the gift of laughter

smileyface

By Staff Writer Judi Weiss

My mother once told someone that if the walls in our house had ears, they would hear a great big laugh. And it’s true. I was born into a family that loves to laugh.

From my older sister, who can make me laugh when I want to cry, to my younger sister, who juts out her chin while doing her flawless impression of Count Olaf, my family is the reason why I laugh.

When my oldest sister was at her graduation ceremony, my then eight-year-old sister was ready for it to be over. When the speaker took a pause in his long speech, my youngest sister jumped to her feet and clapped her hands together. A single clap can make a pretty decent echo in a silent auditorium. (more…)

real fun: the twit

I admit: Twitter was one of those things I planned to do. After midnight on a half moon during a dental filling when the monsoon blew through my front yard. (more…)

real laugh: dad, i’m on fire

By RTF Guest Writer, Andrew Yellis

This is a true story, and has been a legend within the Yellis family for almost ten years.

We were at a christmas party. There were no other children there.
A bowl of delicious nuts was nearby…what did you expect me to do?

This was going to be a test of all my skills.

real life: kourtney keeps her baby

babyfeet

Guest post by Tricia Goyer

… I’m proud that Kourtney Kardashian carried her baby … and that she chose to speak out about it.

My hope is that many young women will get the same message: “You may regret not having the baby.”

Kourtney Kardashian’s unplanned pregnancy forced the shocked reality TV star to make one of the most difficult decisions in her life: Would she have the baby or terminate the pregnancy?

“I definitely thought about it long and hard, about if I wanted to keep the baby or not, and I wasn’t thinking about adoption,” Kardashian, 30, who was shooting E!’s Kourtney & Khloe Take Miami at the time, tells PEOPLE exclusively. “I do think every woman should have the right to do what they want, but I don’t think it’s talked through enough. I can’t even tell you how many people just say, ‘Oh, get an abortion.’ Like it’s not a big deal.” Read the rest here.
