real gifts: presents with a purpose

Yeah. We know. Christmas is less than a week away. And you’re thinking, If I don’t have all my gift-shopping done now, I’m out of luck! Didn’t we tell you we’re here for you? Um, it’s still true. Just sayin’…

So because we know that sometimes life gets crazy and you realize you forgot to buy something for your slightly crazy half-cousin Mary Sue, we’re highlighting the best charity (aka online) gifts you can give. Basically you can buy a super-useful gift for someone in poverty and send a card to Mary Sue, letting her know you donated in her honor. So not only can you knock that person off your gift list, you can help change the world. Yeah. Pretty awesome.

Compassion part 1

Compassion, part 2

Compassion International is a favorite of ours. I mean, for $10 you can buy a mosquito net to protect someone from contracting malaria. For $16, you can get a chicken so a family can have a source of eggs which will also provides income. (A chicken — it’s a gift that keeps on giving!) And if Mary Sue is wondering why you bought a chicken in her name, you’ll be able to explain what it will mean to a family in poverty. Check out Compassion’s catalog for that just right gift; once you find it you’ll have the option email or print your card for Mary Sue. We think it’s an awesome idea.

Samaritan’s Purse has tons of great options, including six gifts under $15. For $14, you can give a starter brood of chicks (okay, apparently we really like chickens!), and for $15, you can provide a child the opportunity to read and write. We definitely like that! And right before check-out, you can add a regular or e-card. Check out the many awesome options in the Samaritan’s Purse catalog. (If you prefer you can, download the catalog on iTunes.)

You’ve heard us talk about Show Hope before. But we think this organization rocks. Not only do they help families afford adoptions, they provide necessary surgeries and healthcare to orphans, as well as resources for families that have adopted, to help their new child adjust. Show Hope’s catalog gives you tons of options and then you can have a cool e-card to send so Mary Sue can see that you didn’t actually forget her. Everybody wins.

Give a gift and change the world? Um, yeah! We think that idea rocks. Especially when you forgot to put someone on your list. Not that we would… Ahem.

I do indeed, Natalie! I like to get my shopping done early. And in some cases I have to be done early because we split our time between my family and my husband’s family. So Christmas comes a week early sometimes. But I’m a big fan of online shopping. How about you, Natalie? Got any presents left to get?

That’s cool! I’m glad you got everything done!:) I still have to finish up on my friend’s Bekah and Abby(I thought their names were a coincedence because of the site). I have all my family done, and all my other friends too!:) Have a Merry Christmas!
