real fun: monday link-list

Studying can be a drag sometimes, but I’ve found some pretty nice sites that lend a helping hand. Since school is in full swing, I thought I’d share them with you. (I’m in no way affiliated with these sites, and, though I’d like it a whole lot, I’m not getting any money for mentioning them.) Check them out:

Quizlet.com lets you make your own flashcards (you have to create an account, but it’s completely free). I’ve used this so many times and I absolutely love it! Once your cards are made, you can study them (clicking on it flips it to the other side), play games to better understand them, and test yourself with fill in the blanks and matching exercises. It is nice, especially when you don’t feel like hand-writing a hundred index cards.

Dictionary.com is the place to look up definitions, synonyms, and pronunciations. I use this all the time.

YouTube.com. It’s surprising that, along with videos of cats flushing toilets and artists getting their voices on the web, there are actually educational things to see. Can’t figure out a math concept? Look it up on YouTube. Struggling to learn the bones of the body or table of elements? Search for songs about them. (Yes, I’ve searched for both of those.) I’m taking an anatomy and physiology course this year and, seriously, there are some great anatomy videos with people pointing out the bones of the skull or pectoral girdle or some other fascinating thing. (Sorry, I broke out into my nerd voice.)

(Editor’s note: be sure to check out our YouTube channel and official Real Teen Faith playlist!)

Wait… what? You say you’ve finished your homework already? Okay, here’s few websites to check out in your downtime.

Musicovery.com is a very cool site that plays music to fit your mood. The best part: it’s free.

Gifts.com, so you can finally figure out what to give your friend for his (or her) birthday.

SimilarSites.com shows you sites that are similar to the ones you already like.

BookDepository.com is a great place to buy books at discounted prices with completely free shipping. I’m kind of in love with books, so I’ve used this place a lot.

Snopes.com reveals the truth about urban legends, myths, and more. It’ll also tell you if the email forward you got about the polar bears is a hoax or not. (And no, you are not given 200 extra points for spelling your name correctly on the SAT. I wish!)

DrawAStickman.com asks you to draw a stickman and make it move. But wait, where did that dragon come from? Draw a sword and help your little stickman save the day. The site leads you through several different drawing challenges. It’s so fun!

Of course, be safe and smart when searching for things. If you know of a cool, useful site please share!

Thanks for the links, Jennifer! I’ll have to check some of them out. Hm, when I’m studying, I mostly use books, so that I don’t get distracted online. I also use a real dictionary when doing homework for my second language. The grammar is very difficult compared to English, so it can take me 10 minutes to find the correct form for just one word. Learning a second language is one of the most difficult and humbling experiences I’ve been through ;)

I don’t envy you, Arianna! I took a couple years of Spanish in high school but am not fluent in the least, though I’d like to be. Keep up the hard work!
