real story: gainfully un-employed

help wanted

By RTF Staff Writer Kalli Simmerman

“We’ll no longer be needing you.” When I read that email, my stomach just clenched. Only a few days before I had been informed that I was being let go from my other job due to budget cuts in the school. Now, within a matter of two days, I was completely unemployed.
Since I’m living on my own, the stress of the situation quickly became overwhelming. I didn’t know what I was going to do or how I was going to be able to pay bills. I broke down but was quickly calmed by the swift action of a good friend who helped me settle in for a night of full of ice cream and Disney movies.

Two weeks had passed and still no word from any of the workplaces I had put in applications at. I had literally gone everywhere around my small college town but no one seemed to be hiring. There were days when the stress hit me like a freight train and I had thoughts of giving up and moving back home (where there seemed to be a lot more job opportunities anyway). But then there were days when I could’ve cared less. It was nice to have some time off from the endless strain of having a job and having to put up with the rude and ungrateful people who came along with it.

People kept telling me that God will provide. And I believed that. He’d done so many times before, and I knew that if I would just be patient and wait, the perfect job opportunity would come along eventually. Now I’m about to be a waitress. And while it’s not exactly what I had in mind, I know that something good may come out of it. Who knows? Maybe it’ll turn out to be exactly the kind of job I’ve been looking for.
