real devo: more than skin deep

By RTF Staff Writer Kalli Simmerman

Let’s face it folks, we’re naturally judgmental.

Even when we don’t mean to be.

There have been times when I catch myself making snide remarks about someone as I walk through campus or am sitting in class. It’s times like these when I have to stop and say, how could you think that? You, of all people, should know better than to judge someone based on their looks.

You see, when I was in elementary school I got made fun of a lot because I had freckles and crooked teeth. This made me resent the things that later in life would set me apart.

As I got older I began to realize that it didn’t matter if people thought I was pretty or not. You see, I woke up every day knowing that I was beautiful in the eyes of the Lord. This affected my attitude and people began to notice.

So it’s really true when they say that beauty is more than just skin deep. Just because someone looks a certain way doesn’t mean they’re a bad person. If you take the chance to get to know them, they could be one of the best people you ever met.

Thanks for your post, Kalli. I definitely agree about beauty only being skin deep. I find that the more you get to know a person, the less their looks/outward appearance matter.

I agree with this too! And also with what Arianna said about how you find yourself more drawn to who the person is over time rather what the person looks like.
