The other morning as I walked outside something caught my eye – orange flowers – my favorite color. I smiled, wondering if those flowers were my flowers – placed there just for me.
“God sends you flowers each morning as a symbol of His love for you…It’s up to you whether you receive them or not,” Shannon Primicerio wrote in God Called a Girl.
In order to send flowers, God must notice me. That reminds me of these words:
“Jesus turned and saw her. ‘Take heart, daughter,’ he said, ‘your faith has healed you.’ And the woman was healed from that moment.” Matthew 9:22 (NIV).
What is your favorite part of that verse?
Is it when Jesus encouraged the woman to “take heart?”
Is it when He told her that her faith had resulted in her healing?
Or is it when she was healed completely from that moment on?
You want to know my favorite part?
It’s when “Jesus turned…and saw her.”
I wonder, “How often does God turn and notice me?”
I bet the answer would surprise me. And I would be willing to bet that it would have to do with a lot more than flowers of my favorite color.
How often do I think about the fact that God thinks about me? How often do I push aside God’s love for me and get caught up in life? How often do I forget that I should be living out of love for God, not obligation? Is it really life at all when love is not a part of it?
How often do I see God as “the God who sees me” (Genesis 16:13)?
“Jesus turned and saw her…”
Two thousand years ago on Calvary
…last week as I registered for college
…this very minute.
God sees me.
God sees you.
And loves us.
And smiles because we now know…
“Jesus turned and saw…”
And so He sends the flowers.
