real news: no Facebook?

girl and laptop

A university did something crazy a few weeks ago, something totally experimental.

Harrisburg University of Science and Technology asked their 800 students to live one week without social media- Facebook, Twitter, instant messaging, all of it.

That’s right, one week with no Facebook!

The university blocked social media access to the school’s IP address, and though students could access their accounts on smart phones, most of the students complied with the ban.

What do you think about this experiment?

How would you feel having someone else block your access to your accounts?

Could you survive a week without social media?

We’d love to hear your thoughts!

P. S. If you’re interested in the results or just want to read more, you can find the whole article here.

I think I could deal with no social networking for a week. I mean, its just as easy to call a person or talk to them face-to-face as it is to facebook on IM them. :)

This got me thinking, and I’m going to do my own version of this. I’m going to forgo facebook during the week, only checking in on the weekends.
I recently realized how much time I spend absent-mindedly surfing the Face, and that time NEEDS to be used better.

So, starting this Monday, it’s on.

… (did I just call Facebook, “The Face”???)
