These biting words that cut so deep
They make me shudder and make me weep
They come from a mother with unloving glares
A younger brother who doesn’t care
They come from a father who fills you with lies
An older sister who mocks your cries
The biting words that cut so deep
The ones that make you shudder and make you weep
They cause what seem to be unhealable wounds
And make you want to sink into an inescapable tomb
But there is a man who can mute the words
And put an end to your unavoidable hurts
He can pull you out of the darkness that ensues
All you have to do is pursue

Note from the editor: Kalli says this piece was written a few years ago, but pertains to no actualpeople in her life. We believe a lot of you will be able to relate to the poem, though, knowing that God’s grace pursues us in the midst of our brokenness.
