real retro: skydiving

Happy Retro Day! Throughout life, it seems so much saner to keep our feet and eyes on the ground, but sometimes that means we fail to appreciate the beauty around us. Sometimes God doesn’t want us to do the safe thing- sometimes He wants us to get on a plane and step out in faith, trusting Him, and only Him, to catch us. That’s what this week’s piece is all about. Enjoy! ~ Halee

Senior year has ended for me. I have no plans for life after high school. Right now, life feels a lot like skydiving without a parachute. After twelve years of structure, I’m officially an adult. I’m allowed to make my own decisions and (gulp) my own mistakes. It’s exhilarating and terrifying. I tend to bounce from two extremes: “I can’t believe high school is finally over!” to “What am I supposed to do now?”

If the truth be told, I never thought this day would come. It seemed only a moment ago that my mom asked me where I wanted to go college. I laughed like she’d make a joke. Me? Thinking about college? I was only thirteen, a fact I pointed out to her.

“Life goes by faster than you realize,” she said.

When I prayed about what to do after high school, the answer was clear: take a year off. Even when I came to Him with what seemed like great opportunities, the answer remained the same: take a year off. To be honest, I’m not sure what I’m doing taking this year off. But the closer I get to the ground, the more I know God’s going to catch me.

Thou wilt show me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. –Psalms 16:11 (KJV)
