Katelyn drew her legs up in her favorite chair and tapped the pencil on her notepad. The words flowed into her mind and she transferred them onto paper…

Dear Future Husband,
It feels kind of weird writing to you when I don’t even know you. But I know you’re out there. Somewhere. I’m writing because I want you to know I’m praying for you. To grow in the Lord everyday and become a strong man of God. I’m also writing to make a pledge of purity to you, God, and myself. Not only sexually, but also emotionally. I pray that you’ll be able to resist temptations and stay pure for me, like I am for you. With God’s help, I will do everything I can to stay pure. I promise myself to only you. Forever.
With love, Katelyn
Years later, Katelyn dug out the letter from inside her journal. Could the guy she just went out with be the one she’d give this letter? She smiled, remembering the time they had together and re-read the letter, reminding herself of her pledge to purity. To guard her heart and not give it away, no matter what.
In a few months, Katelyn climbed into bed and grabbed her journal and pulled the letter out. Disappointment and regret clouded her thoughts. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to apologize to God for putting herself in a compromising situation or thank him for providing a way out. She read the letter again. I almost broke my promise. Thank you, God, for allowing me to keep my virginity, and help me be more careful. I’ll never put myself in a risky situation again!
A couple years later, Katelyn felt a different kind of disappointment, but this time, it was washed out with joy. He asked her to marry him! But at the same time, she felt let down. She worked so hard to stay pure and he told her he was not a virgin. She replayed the moment; before she busted out with a “yes!” he said he had something to tell her. His expression was serious and genuinely sorry as he explained how his virginity was lost then renewed through Christ. She pulled out her letter again and read the words, proud she forgave him and told him she loved him too much to let a mistake stand in the way. Before long, she’d be handing this letter to him!
Not soon enough, the day came. She kept her promise and gave up her virginity to only him after they wed. It was the most thrilling experience, knowing that she never had and never will do the same with anyone else. A few days later, as they sat on the couch in their hotel suite, Katelyn pulled out the letter for the last time and handed it to him.
As he read the words, tears overflowed. “You have no idea how much this means to me.” He said, meeting her eyes. “To know you were praying and staying pure for me before we even met.” He leaned close. “I wish I would have saved myself for you. You did an honorable thing, Katelyn. I love you.” He planted a sweet kiss on her lips. No longer was he “Future Husband”, a distant dream. He was her husband. Forever.

Proud of you, sister! I praise God for your courage to stand for His way in a world that says it can’t be done. I loved how you showed that we can be renewed in Christ, while still making the gift of purity shine. Keep writing for Him! : ) Praying you will be blessed as He grows your writing ministry. Can’t wait to read more from you.

Oh my gosh, I am totally crying as I read this, I wrote a letter similiar to the one you posted in 2007 and I am still here praying and writing and staying pure for my future husband. You reminded me why I am doing this. Thank you.

Now that I have finally made up my mind about purity, i wrote a similar letter to MY future husband. Thankyou so much for helping me- I’ve never known what to say before but now I do.
