When Sanctus Real’s new album Pieces of a Real Heart was released, the song Forgiven made a big splash in the Christian Music industry. It quickly reached the top five ranking on the AC (Adult Contemporary) chart, giving listeners a small indication on how big of a success this new album would be.

As I listened to Forgiven, I was struck by the sincerity of the lyrics. I could totally see why this song is such a phenomenon! The chorus itself is a reminder that many of us need to hear: “I don’t have to carry the weight of who I’ve been – ‘Cause I’m forgiven.”

Sometimes it’s so easy to let our pasts catch up with us. We feel like we’re walking around with all of our mistakes resting on our shoulders, but that’s not the case at all. Because of the forgiveness of Christ, the weight is gone. Sanctus Real does an amazing job at sharing this message.

But in spite of the success of Forgiven, the song Take Over Me left me most in awe. One of my biggest shortfalls in life is pride; wanting to accomplish great things so people will respect me. A part of my soul cried along with the lyrics:

“My stubborn will can be so twisted

Pride can steal the best from me

But it’s not what I want, but You’re what I need

So I surrender”

Sometimes it’s so hard to say, “I don’t want to live thinking about my wants, but instead about what Christ wants with me.” Sometimes we just need to pray that Christ will take over us, and this song really made me see that.

I’ve always been a fan of Sanctus Real, and I have to say they’ve done it once again. Each and every song delivers real lyrics from the heart. No song is the same, but each and every one leaves you amazed at the grace of God.

Sanctus Real did not just write empty words, but instead they allowed God to speak through them in an amazing way. Pick up “Real Pieces of a Broken Heart” today. You won’t be disappointed.
