By RTF Staff Writer Sarah Rupp
I was forced to write this poem for a writing program I was in called Christian Writer’s Guild. Understand, I hate writing poetry. I was nearing the deadline to write my poem and would soon have to send it to my writing mentor. So, on short notice, I decided to write a poem about hating poetry:
I lie on the floor of my bedroom with my hands on my head
The thought of writing a poem makes me want to go to bed
Sighing as I peel myself off the floor
Day after day, I’ve come to dread this horrible chore
O poetry, how I loathe thee!
It makes me want to flee
And go to a place where I don’t have to rhyme
I feel like it’s wasting all my time!
This assignment is going to drive me crazy!
It’s not that I’m being lazy,
I just don’t know what to write
I’ve been trying to think with all my might
While I write this poem, I must be honest,
I’d rather be at the orthodontist!
Now then, let’s talk about fiction
To me, that’s my addiction
It’s the place where my mind can roam
And I feel the most at home
The characters wait patiently in my mind
Beckoning me to go back to writing the fiction kind
So with a little bit of desperation
And a lot of frustration
We are nearing the end
And I cannot wait to send
This poem to my mentor
Where I will never see it again
Goodbye my friend!
This is officially the end.

Love this! I’ve never had to write poetry, but I’ve never really enjoyed as much as other forms of writing.

Thanks, Stephanie! I never knew how much I hated poetry until I was forced to write it! When my writing mentor sent it back to me, she said she was laughing out loud as she read it. I guess it was worth the agony.
