real laugh: dad, i’m on fire

By RTF Guest Writer, Andrew Yellis

This is a true story, and has been a legend within the Yellis family for almost ten years.

We were at a christmas party. There were no other children there.
A bowl of delicious nuts was nearby…what did you expect me to do?

This was going to be a test of all my skills.
Worst sweater ever.

Contrary to what is shown here, I did reach past the candle.
It was even better than I imagined it would be.
I had to try again.
Predictable, I know.
(This is the only panel in which I drew the fire, because I am a failure)

I love my Dad.
He proceeded to throw me to the ground and beat me until the “fire was gone”.
The End.

Many thanks to my artistic sister Elizabeth for the fire.

I will always have this image burned into my mind:

Looking down at my hands and holding them in front of me,
watching flames leap from my left arm, across my chest, and up my right arm.
It was truly surreal.
