Real Advice: How can I get my friends to believe in God?

Hi! I was wondering how you think I could get my friends and family to become Christians, or at least go to church with me and believe in God? I think its really awesome. Can you give me some thoughts about what to do? Thanks a lot. God Bless, and thanks.

Rachel

Hi Rachel, I think it’s awesome that you love God so much that you want to share it with your friends and family. Knowing him is amazing.

A couple of years back I read that 83% of people polled said that if someone asked them to go to church with them, they would go. That really surprised me. The question I asked myself after reading that was, “why aren’t more people asking?”.

Many people feel like that faith is such a private issue that we shouldn’t infringe on others. But I believe that if I have a friend and I know of something amazing, then I would love to share that with them.

Let them know you’d love for them to hang out with you at church. Pray for your friends and family privately. Ask God to create a hunger in their heart for deeper connection with him.

But the faith part? That will be their decision. Live your faith with integrity and depth every day. They will see Him inside of you. Respect the fact that God will work in their hearts and lives on a very personal level. It may be that they have to work through some things before they are willing to let God in. It may be that he’s working in a very special way and you won’t see it because it will be on a heart level.

So, my advice is to ask them to come with you to church. Share with them the cool things that God is doing in your life. Pray! And then let God draw them to himself so that they can begin a very real, very intimate walk with God on their own.

Be patient. It’s not up to you to define or even grow their faith. It’s your role to live your faith and love God, and let him be revealed through your life.

You sound like an awesome friend,

Suzie

It brings me to tears to think that what God gives me the privilege of doing for him reaches more people in one day than some of the greatest preachers of 100 years ago could reach in their whole life. No wonder God made the Internet!” - Dean Craig, online evangelist
