When Life is Hard
by B.J. Hamrick, RTF Staff Writer
If you manage to stay calm in a situation when everyone around you is panicking, you probably don’t understand the situation.” - Unknown
The past few days have been a whirlwind. Sometimes life throws curve-balls at us. I can handle curveballs. But when life throws curve-balls at the ones I love. . . that’s when it’s hard.
If I could, I’d reach my hand out and stop the curve-ball.
But I’m not God. (Not to mention I was never athletic. Seriously. Don’t even ask me to tell you the softball story. It’s just sad.)
If I could, I’d pitch the ball in a straight line and send it right over home plate for you. Then I’d watch you bang it out of the park.
I’d cheer you on as you rounded the bases and did the chicken dance. Or whatever dance made us laugh the hardest.
But the curve-balls are coming one at a time, slowly and precisely, grazing your head and leaving that bewildered look in your eye.
Life’s not playing by the rules. At least not the rules we’d like to it to.
I just want you to know I’m here for you. I wish it was me, standing there. . . holding that heavy bat and taking my best awkward swing at
Life. I wish I could do this for you. I can’t.
But you can.
You can hit that ball. And when you do, I’ll be here. . . cheering you on. I’ll scream your name as you round the last base. . . and break into the chicken dance.
Dance baby, dance.
