Real Fun: Goodbye School

Goodbye School

Goodbye School
by B.J. Hamrick, RTF Staff Writer

Dear School,

I fell in love with you back in first grade. You were fun, attractive, and easy to get along with. We played games, laughed, and spent a lot of time on the playground.

Then the honeymoon ended.

By our sixth year together, you became sickeningly needy. I hardly wanted anything from you, but you always demanded something from me. The worst part was when I couldn’t spend time with my friends because I was too busy attending to you.

But I had my moments too. Like the times I came running to you to escape my problems. Spending time with you made the rest of the world disappear.

I don’t regret the years we spent together, but I want you to know that when June 2008 comes, I’m leaving. I’ve given you the best years of my life. And though you were with me through all the Major changes (from R.N. to engineering to agriculture to business to journalism), it’s time for me to move on. I’m done with you, School.

Please don’t try to contact me. I really mean it this time. It’s over.

Love,
B.J.

P.S. - Can we get back together?

I love this. I’m ready for school to end–at least for now. But I know I’ll be ready to go back in just a few weeks of doing nuth’n.

  3. BJ says:

    Thanks Maddee! :)

  4. Catey Yuen says:

Great job! I totally know how you feel- except I still have plenty of years of school ahead of me.

  5. BJ says:

Jenni — I hear you. It’s hard to break up with school permanently… which is probably a good thing.

Thanks, Catey! Hang in there — it’s worth it!
