I’ve been looking at your website, and I really like the article, “Living on Borrowed Convictions”. I teach middle school students at a Christian Montessori school. My students don’t have much faith to speak of. I want to be able to “teach religion” in such a way to encourage them to ask “big questions”: Who am I? Who is God?, etc. without teaching dogmatically.
Do you have any suggestions? We are interdenominational. I think we need to start with Relationship with God before the Rules. We also have to be able to encourage searching for answers without compromising the Truth. Any thoughts you have would be welcome! (It’s okay to share this question on the web.) Thank you!
Making It Real: Whose Faith is it Anyway? is all of the above. It is deep, but teen friendly. It allows a teen to sort through all the things they’ve been taught to discover what Scripture says, and to make it their own.
The teens in my home church are going through it now. I sat in on two of their classes as a guest teacher last month. I am excited to see their excitement over the book, and over their growing relationship with God.

Deb says:
I LOVED that book!
Unfortunately, I had to discover the answers to those questions you mentioned on my own…not the best way to do it. I made a lot of mistakes
But God directed me to people and resources that helped me grow.
DEFINTELY use that book if possible…
