Real Word: Revelation

teensworship.jpg

Aha!

So, that’s what that means.

Deeper understanding. Knowledge. Insight. That’s what the word revelation means. Today I was reading the book of Revelations [chapters 1 through 4].

As I studied these chapters, I asked the 5 W’s:

John wrote this book. Who is he? Disciple. Son of Zebedee. Brother to James. In the inner circle of friendship with Jesus. A man who was banished to an island, away from friends and family, because of his faith and love for Christ.

Why did he write it? Because of a vision from God. He had revelation to share with the churches and those who followed Christ.

When? While banished to the island. Long after Jesus’ death and resurrection.

Who received this? The established churches of that day.

What is the message? There are many messages in these first four chapters. There were personal messages to each church, sharing their strengths, but also their weaknesses. It was insight into what grieved and brought joy to the heart of God.

But one phrase was repeated over and over: “You have ears! Then listen to what the Spirit says. . .”.

As I prayed today I asked that God would open my ears. Shut out all the hype and noise. Turn off the pressure. Set aside the to-do list and let me just listen to what the Spirit says through Scripture, through time with God.

As silence blanketed my world, an uncomfortable thing for me and for most, I hung out with the Creator of the Universe.

Aha!

It’s what I long to do the most, but let life crowd out.

Aha!

It’s where we gain our strength.

Aha!

Slow down, Suz, and let me in your life daily. Open your ears and listen to the Spirit. . .

Revelation.
