Real Devo: Heart of Worship

Heart of Worship
By: Jade West, RTF Staff Writer

It’s almost nine o’clock as I sit in my bedroom. Praise and worship music fills the room and I start to wonder when was the last time I truly worshipped God.

In the summer of 2006 it seemed I couldn’t worship Him enough. I could praise God at any place at any moment. Spontaneous worship wasn’t uncommon for me.

Back then, worship wasn’t another item on my lengthy to-do list—back then, worship was a way of life for me.

But that was before my Dad moved to Tennessee for six months, before my health problems started, before senior year began.

Yet, I still find myself wondering: when I did I lose that heart of worship?

I think of words I voiced long ago: “No matter what I go through, I want to honor and worship You.”

How far I’ve come! Now, I’m content to focus all of my energy on the heartaches. Yet that’s not what David did:

“But mine eyes are unto thee, O God the Lord: in thee is my trust; leave not my soul destitute.” –Psalms 141:8

And I realize now that somewhere along the way, I lost my focus. I forgot to focus on God and instead focused on my troubles.

When I choose to focus on God, my heart cannot help but acknowledge the truth that He is worthy to be praised. I cannot help but worship God when I think of Who He is.

I lost a lot of time this year because my focus was distorted; I can’t change that.

What I can change is what I focus on in 2008.

My prayer: Father, renew my focus as this year comes to a close. Restore my heart to a state of worship…let me have a heart after You. In your matchless name, Amen.

Bio: Jade West (pen name for D. Weiss) is a writer, dreamer, and born-again child of God. She has many goals and hopes for her future, but her number one goal is to be a living sacrifice for Jesus Christ.

I have to agree with Jade. I find so easy to lose track of time and forgot about making the time for God and the Bible! Cindi
