Real Needs
By RTF Staff Writer Jade West
“And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” –Luke 11:9 (KJV)
“But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:19 (KJV)
So many times, we use verses like these to ask about physical things–a new computer, a digital camera, a better job and the list goes on and on.
But how often do you take the time to pray for other needs and wants? Like your emotional and spiritual needs?
Maybe you need wisdom to judge between right and wrong today. Maybe you need patience with a younger sibling. Or you need a word from the Lord.
Whatever your spiritual and emotional needs, they don’t “scare” God. He doesn’t expect you to “tough it out”. In fact, in Matthew 6:8, Jesus says “…for your Father knows what things you have need of before you ask him.”
I know that it’s difficult for some of you reading this to accept that. Your life has been built on being “tough”. You wear a mask because someone in your life taught you that expressing a need is a sign of weakness.
But I also know that in my own life some of the sweetest moments have occurred when I brought my needs before the Lord. And He met them. Sometimes through other people. Sometimes through a Bible reference. He’s always met me in the middle of my pain.
Maybe He didn’t answer a particular need the way I thought it should be answered, but who am I to question the Creator of the Universe? Certainly, He knows better than I do what I truly need!
