Every Rose has its Thorns
by Rachel Mok
Just like every rose has its thorns, I have my rough edges as well. Yeah we were “born” with our weaknesses, like they always say you don’t have to teach a baby to do something bad, they just do it. But, why do we always use that as our excuse? Shouldn’t we always strive for the best, aim for perfection? We can’t with our human nature, that’s why we need God! On the other hand, we lack the that faith and trust, so how does that work anyway? (more…)

I’m a huge fan of Shrek. In Shrek I, there were some cool quotes, like these:
Shrek: Well it’s no wonder you don’t have any friends.
The Donkey: Wow, only a true friend would be that truly honest.
Shrek: Ogres are like onions.
Donkey: They stink?
Shrek: Yes. No.
Donkey: Oh, they make you cry.
Shrek: No.
Donkey: Oh, you leave em out in the sun, they get all brown, start sproutin’ little white hairs.
Shrek: NO. Layers. Onions have layers. Ogres have layers. Onions have layers. You get it? We both have layers.
In Shrek, I fell for Fiona, for Shrek, and of course, for Donkey. I also loved the message that what was on the inside of a person (or ogre) matters more than what is on the outside.
Then came Shrek 2 with more cool quotes, like this one:

Recently I started talking to a guy who’s in my church choir. We’ve been talking for some time and I told him that I had feelings for him. He said he had feelings for me too and also he said that he has never been in a relationship before. He wants a relationship where he can be with someone wholeheartedly, but until it is the right time we don’t communicate as much.
I agree with him and respect him for that. But then I got in touch with a guy I knew from way back. We went out for his birthday recently and I had a great time with him. I stopped liking him before because he was a player. He used to say that he does the “on the side” thing. I don’t know if he has changed from then and I like him what should I do?

Psalm 69
A David psalm
1God, God, save me! I’m in over my head,
2Quicksand under me, swamp water over me;
I’m going down for the third time.

Happiness?
Lydia Rule, RTF Staff Writer
Recently, I was discussing the definition of “happiness” in a forum. The question was: what is happiness?
This made me think about how people often mistake pleasure as happiness. Pleasure is getting something you want or doing something you enjoy. The sort of feeling you get when you buy a new t-shirt or pair of flip-flops that you’ve always wanted. It’s the feeling you get when your team wins a game. And all of these things are good, but they won’t make you truly happy. Why? Because as soon as the pleasurable moment is gone, you will usually feel let down or sad that it is over. (more…)

Two weeks ago I traveled by bus with a group of teens from Muskogee High School to Camp Bennet, a camp for physically disabled children, teens, and adults. Muskogee had a huge ice storm this winter and it shattered trees.
Camp Bennet is set in the midst of a small wooded area and broken limbs and twigs were everywhere. Campers would be in danger from all the debris. When I climbed on the bus, I knew I was going to have a fun time.

YouTube is one of our favorite sites, but now there’s GospelTube. We checked it out and had high hopes. There’s potential, but right now there just isn’t enough content or diversity in what is offered. The categories include Christian comedy, sermons, future leaders (teens and kids who teach, preach, etc.), unlisted bands, hip-hop, youth (but most of that is adults talking to youth) and more.
RTF gives it two stars.
Check it out and let us know what you think! RTF believes there is room for growth and improvement, and we hope that they succeed. We really do. . .
