Real Missions: Deep Ellum

deepellum.jpgJamie Schneider  is a U.S. Missionary in Dallas, Texas in an area called Deep Ellum. She and others minister to those who are homeless or runaways.

Two months ago Jamie joined with others to reach out in a unique way during the annual Deep Ellum Arts Festival.

Thousands of people come to listen live music and look at art.

The mission held church services during the festival, worshiping God and celebrating Easter in music and art. They painted the story of the Resurrection. Many people who came to the festival were surprised, but also loved the presentation.

Sometimes when you think of missions, you imagine far away regions of Africa or building homes in Mexico, but urban missionaries, like Jamie, live in the U.S.

Sometimes you think of missions and you think of traditional methods, instead of beating the djembe drum and painting during an Easter art presentation. But missions is taking truth in all forms to all people and presenting it right where they are.

If you are interested in knowing more about Deep Ellum’s missionary project, go to Life In Deep Ellum for more information or to Deep Ellum Church.

Sometimes, we forget that not all U.S. soldiers serve on the front lines…some of them serve right here in our communities.

And just like the U.S. soliders (God bless ‘em all!), Christian soldiers need to realize that there are people right here who need to be protected, taught, and most importantly–loved.
