“What are your New Year resolutions?”
Most list things like losing weight or stopping bad habits. Other people wake up January 1 ready to tackle the new year with all kinds of new goals.
This year I don’t resolve to DO anything.
What? Did I hear you correctly? Suzie, how can you start the new year with resolutions?
The word resolve means determination or striving to make something happen. While I believe in making goals and discovering what I can do or learn, or what God wants, if I try to do things by sheer willpower, I start out strong and eventually find that willpower isn’t enough.
So this year instead of resolving to DO, I plan to accept what has already been given to me.
I accept the fact that God is bigger than me, and he knows my future.
I accept the promise that when I get alone with him, he already knows what I need.
I accept his forgiveness.
I accept the fact that he sees me in a much different light than I will ever be able to envision.
I accept his grace.
I accept his direction.
I accept his loving correction as he helps me find destiny.
I accept that I’m his girl.
I accept the teaching in his word.
I accept the freedom he offers — not a faith built on rules or tradition, but on taking it deep with the God of the universe, and really discovering what it means to be a follower of Christ.
I accept all of these.
What about you? Do you resolve or accept?
