I need a bible scripture or advice about jealousy and real beauty because I get jealous easily, especially about apearance. Like, I believe that other girls are more beautiful than me. That’s why I look for scriptures about what real beauty is in the eyes of Jesus Christ. I am having a hard time finding one.
Than you very much. =] Alyssa
RTF Response:
Hi Alyssa,
More than any other generation, this one struggles with body image.
Body image issues can come from many sources, but the overriding demand is to conform to fit someone else’s idea body image.
In the book Mind Games, Matthew Paul Turner, shares the story of his friend, Cheryl. She felt so ugly that she became obsessed with her appearance.
He says that the lies she told herself about her appearance became a prison.
“She found out the hard way something that we all must understand: Our minds hold a great deal of power over our lives,” Turner says. “The objective truth—God’s truth—is that Cheryl is valuable to God and thus she is infinitely worthy. Her place in the kingdom of God is not based on superficial qualifications. God looks at the heart, not the skin. Cheryl’s value to God is a truth she could build her life around.”
What will you discover if you change your focus to the inside? What spiritual beauty lies within you?
You are made in God’s image. What might happen if you began a journey of pursuing wisdom, knowledge, compassion, joy, and service to others?
You would discover a treasure that our culture fails to nurture.
Here are a few scriptures for you:
~God Made You~
Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother’s womb. I thank you, High God–you’re breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration–what a creation! You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you, The days of my life all prepared before I’d even lived one day.
Psalm 139:13-16
~God Loves You~
I’m absolutely convinced that nothing–nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable–absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.
Romans 8:38-39
~Refocus on God to Find the Real You~
So if you’re serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ presides. Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ–that’s where the action is. See things from his perspective. Your old life is dead. Your new life, which is your real life–even though invisible to spectators–is with Christ in God. He is your life. When Christ (your real life, remember) shows up again on this earth, you’ll show up, too–the real you, the glorious you.
Colossians 3:1-4
