Looking for a Father by Ashley P., Guest WriterĀ
By
the time I was three my parents were divorced and my dad was already remarried. It’s hard when your parents separate, but harder when your three and one of them tells you that it’s all your fault.
Growing up, I wanted what everyone else seemed to have. A Father. Someone who would look out for me, hold me on bad days, and tell me I was his little princess.
I thought that I had found this in my best friend’s dad. He watched out for the two of us, and took us on trips with him. However, he didn’t want to be my father figure. From eight to eleven- years-old I was sexually abused multiple times.
This was something that I carried with me for a long time. Then one day someone invited me to go to church with them. I was blown away because I had lived my life feeling like I had deserved what had happened to me. But while I was at church God spoke to me and let me know that there was no way that I deserved this.
I had finally found what I had searched for. A father to pick me up when I fall, hold me when I’m down, and a Father who is proud to call me his princess every day!
