The Last Christian Generation by Michael J. McManus

Author says that you are the last generation of believers. Only 1/3 of teens who say church is part of their life believe that it will be a part of their life in the future.

Personally? I don’t think God can be eliminated from the hearts of those who follow him. And yet I see that perhaps we need to talk more about an amazing God. We need to make faith more than just church or following rules. God is powerful. God changes lives.

We have to show God as more than just some words on a funky rubber bracelet.

What’s your take?

Real Advice

I used to love God and believed that he was always there. At this moment in my life I am having a lot of doubt about God. I know he told us to trust that he was there, but how can I trust and love someone who isn’t there.

your friend,

Jeanna

RT Response: Hi Jeanna, I don’t know your situation, but I promise you this: God isn’t ignoring you. I love the scripture where it says that God sees even the smallest sparrow fall. He is a God of compassion.

I know what it is like to feel alone or to feel that God isn’t around, but after walking as a woman of faith for a very long time I’ve learned that he is there. Many times life takes us through hard places. God is there.

Or people fail us. God is there.

I have looked back in my life and realized that when I felt most alone, that was when God’s strength and compassion were the greatest. I was learning to trust him. I was learning to depend upon his strength. I saw how he took me out of those hard places, maybe not physically, but spiritually I found hope and strength through trusting him.

I am praying for you right now Jeanna, that you will feel God’s love, and that you will know that you are His daughter — in all the right ways, for all of your life.

So, want to read the Bible with us? Check out the One Year Bible. Our favorite is the message. You can also go online to http://www.oneyearbibleonline.com.

Why read the Bible? Well, coz it’s life and light to a believer.

But this is the deal. A lot of people struggle with reading the Bible. It might not make sense for whatever reason. It might be hard to find the answers you need.

Several days a week we’ll talk about that day’s reading.

Today? It’s March 24. What’s up in the word today?

Love your enemies — Luke 6:27

Wow. Love your enemies. It’s hard enough to love the people we like sometimes.

We live in a culture that makes enemies of each other because of our race or because they don’t fit an idea of image.

Yet Christ is asking his brand new followers (disciples) to love those who hate them. To pray for the happiness of those who curse them. To pray for those who hurt you.

A long time ago I wouldn’t have understood this. It would have been gibberish to me, but then I found out an amazing secret. Loving others makes me free.

Loving those who hate me helps me to live a life of compassion. It rips me out of the mud wrestling match that says that I’ve got to make my enemies pay when I’m torqued or hurt.

But it’s deeper than that. Christ is teaching the foundation of Christianity. Love that goes deeper than just words. Faith that’s more than hanging out in a temple or church. Love that changes your life so much that it changes others when they encounter you.

Hmm. Something to think about.
